Server Upgrade Today

As promised earlier, we will be upgrading the Foxcloud Synchronization Server to the latest and great version of Cosmo. We will be taking the server down for about two hours starting at 5pm PST. During this time, you won't be able to create new accounts, synchronize your bookmarks, or access your bookmarks via my.foxcloud.com.

We'll post here again when the upgrade is successful.

  1. A word to the wise: Click Bookmarks>Foxmarks and deselect Automatic Synchronization until you see a comment that the server upgrade is completed. Else you'll be battered by dialogs telling you that your password is incorrect!

  2. @ Jim McGowan: The upgrade is completed, but we encountered some problems in the process. It sounds like your account may have been one of the accounts affected. If so, please see this page about how to get things back on track.

  3. Ouch! Yes it was, apparently.

I recreated it now, but I had no way of knowing that the error message meant my account had been scrambled.

In case there are other users out there who:

    1) Don't know enough to visit this blog, and...
    2) Are still getting the bogus error message,

...maybe you should edit the error message generated by the server to say, "Error - Please visit www.foxcloud.com.", or whichever page would work best.

    Just a thought.

BTW, thank you for the great extension, Todd!

  4. @ Jim McGowan: Unfortunately, the error message that users see is hard-coded into the extension, otherwise your suggestion would be an excellent approach.

Right now, we're trying to put up notices everywhere we think people might come to look to notify them of the problem. And we're looking into the possibility of emailing users who were affected. And finally, there's some remote possibility that we'll be able to recover the lost accounts.

Thanks for your support and patience. This experience has been fairly traumatizing to us.

    -Todd
