We noticed recently that if you select a range of bookmarks in the Bookmark Manager and delete them, something funny happens: they don't disappear! In many ways, they seem to be gone; you can't actually access them, for instance, but they look no different from ordinary bookmarks. If you restart Firefox, the deleted bookmarks really do go away.
We filed a bug against Firefox for this, and it was recently identified as a duplicate of another bug that was filed last week. So at least we're not the only ones that have seen this. Whatever the problem is, it doesn't seem like it's caused by or related to Foxmarks. But we thought you should know anyway.
I lost all my bookmarks except for one. Is there a way to retrieve them.
ReplyDeleteI just installed Foxmarks and lost all of my bookmarks as well. What's going on here?
ReplyDeleteWin Vista Business
Firefox 2.0.0.3
Odd-and-a-half! About half of my Foxmarks have vanished. I'll have to check my PC at home, too. Just noticed it this morning.
ReplyDeleteI lost about half of my bookmarks... One PC is version 1.5.11 and the other is 2.0.0.3
ReplyDeleteI also lost about half of my bookmarks recently. This has to be a Foxmarks issue. wtf?
ReplyDeleteIf you've lost bookmarks, you can generally restore them from the backups that Firefox automatically makes for you. Please see this link for more information.
ReplyDeleteOur current hypothesis is that this isn't a Foxmarks problem per se, but the next version of Foxmarks (currently being tested; planned for release next week) will detect when something has clobbered your bookmarks, alert you to the fact, and allow you to interrupt synchronization so you can remedy the problem.
Apologies for the inconvenience.
P.S. Generally we don't handle customer support issues through the blog; if you need help, please see our support page.
I concur. I have the some problem and didn't have this issue prior to 2.0.0.3 release.
ReplyDeleteI have noticed that when I deleted bookmarks from my bookmark folder toolbar, the text disappear, but the icons remained. They also don't have any properties associated with them. Using FireFox 2.0.0.3 with Foxmarks version 0.89. I haven't tried a restart yet.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Hi. I got delicious bookmarks but i can't get rid of bookmarks in firefox even with menu editor. it's annyong because i let delicious handle that aspect of my browsing :(
ReplyDeleteit worked fine before. probably because it's 2.0.0.3
Today I tried to find the lost bookmarks.
ReplyDeleteMay be some of you people know this but i want to share with the rest of the people.
Go directly to
1.
C:\Documents and Settings\
Go to C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ewim4f3u.default
ReplyDeleteOpen this file "bookmarks.html.sbsd.bak" using IE or Firefox(preferred)
and bookmark that...
I recently tried Foxmarks with Firefox 2 and it trashed my bookmarks. Deleted all the favicons and deleted subfolders filled with scores of imporant bookmarks.
ReplyDeleteSo I unsinstalled Foxmarks.
Have they ever figured out why it was wiping out so many bookmarks? Have they fixed that yet?
And what about the favicons? Are they going to fix Foxmarks so that it retains your favicons?
This has been a really annoying and frustrating experience for me. But I like the idea of Foxmarks and hope they get it working reliably.
One option I would like to see is for networked computers, so you could store your "master" bookmarks file on one of your own networked computers, instead of on the Foxmarks server. That would eliminate the "server busy" errors that were a really bummer.

ReplyDeleteC:\Documents and Settings\windows login user(active)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxx.default\bookmarkbackups
***look for the bookmark which has the biggest file size or second from the latest bookmark. then import from there, that should be it !!!

ReplyDeleteFirefox also has another draw back that it didn't show your bookmarks of internet explorer. The long list of favourities that i have save. Know i want that list also to be shown in fire fox and when ever i add new website it didn't update. To boomark the website i prefer to use internet explorer.
