With great disappointment, we have removed Foxmarks 2 from the Mozilla Add-ons site. Despite our careful planning and simulation, we were insufficiently prepared to handle the rush of incoming users. By pulling Foxmarks 2 from distribution, we hope that our systems will settle down sufficiently that those of you who did download the new extension will be able to sync successfully.
If you have downloaded and upgraded one of your machines and need to upgrade another machine, you can download the extension from our own site.
Our apologies for any inconvenience. Please watch the blog for updates.
Firefox on Ubuntu Gusty is still pushing the foxmarks upgrade through the add on update integrated in the browser. I don't know if that is a problem or not but thought you might like to know.
ReplyDeleteWell
ReplyDeleteIt seems that there is something wrong with the new foxmarks when I install it on an XP box with newest Firefox. If I get an email address I can send you som screen shots. I would call it critical.
After installing Foxmarks 2, I was unable to sync. When I ttempted to send an email to the address which accompanied the error message, I received this message:

we now have two machines upgraded and at 2.0.31 but the link to get the remaining machine at the same level is broken?
ReplyDeleteI'm on page:
http://blog.foxmarks.com/?p=95
Where is b2? Thanks
I get an XML error on the status-bar i Firefox AND an XML error when trying to enter the settings of the Add-on?!
ReplyDelete@Dorron Katzin:
ReplyDeleteThat's very odd; can you send us the text of the error message, or at least the URL it sends you to? I thought I found all cases of the old email addresses, but apparently I overlooked one. At any rate, you can send emails to support@foxmarks.com if your questions aren't already covered in the blog posts that Todd made overnight.
@link broken and Jørgen:
As Todd mentioned, http://jezebel.foxmarks.com/foxmarks-2.0.31.xpi should work for you; if it doesn't, please give us some more details on how it's not.
@everyone:
Thanks for your patience as we iron out the kinks!
I get the same message as Jørgen
ReplyDeleteAlthough there seem to be some problems and i am unable to download my sync bookmark i just have to say you guys are doing an awesome job. the new look is great and easy to use. i hope the server issues get sorted soon.
ReplyDeleteWith version 2.0.31 the error Jørgen talked about seems to be fixed. The version with the error was in the version 2.0.30. But that was installed automatically from mozilla.
ReplyDeleteYou guys really blew it with this one. It's totally broken for me and my bookmarks are now missing. Thanks guys.
ReplyDeleteCant sync anything, cant get into my foxmarks either. Both just time out.
ReplyDelete@Leo
ReplyDeleteYou could always ask for your money back.
If your only backup of your bookmarks was on the Foxmarks server then you have nobody to blame but yourself for your mistake.
As a side note, if you have another computer (which I assume you do as you are syncing your bookmarks) start the browser and go and export your bookmarks from there.
For the record sync is working for me now.
Not working here too.. The browser update it by itself this morning.. now it hangs at verifying account stage... any way to fall back to old versoin?
ReplyDeleteUpgrade was automatic for me when I fired up FF this morning. Got all the problems reported elsewhere. Reinstalled old version but that no longer worked. Upgraded to 2.0.31 but still getting server timeouts, hanging syncs or account verification fault.
ReplyDeleteVlad, no point in going back 'cos the old version doesn't seem to work either , once you've done the upgrade.
Is this just a matter of server overloads, or is there something more fundamental going wrong?
not working here but weirdly i got some one else's bookmarks and im slightly nervous cause i think his got mine aswell
ReplyDeleteMine is getting stuck at account verification, and I have the 31 build running. I'm on Vista64.
ReplyDeleteOn one of my computers I received the message that Foxmarks was updated, so I updated. Now none of my computers can synchronize. I get a network timeout error.
ReplyDeleteI am having the same problem as Robb. I'm using my own server via https/webDAV. Stuck at "verifying account".
ReplyDeleteServer problems are not the only issue here.
ReplyDeleteI also got somebody elses bookmarks included into mine. Judging from his selection of Bookmarks I suspect we have the same Username set up.
Hope you can sort it out soon!
Can the old version be reinstated as a properly working solution until the upgrade is debugged? Please!
ReplyDeleteHaving problems syncing here as well. 2.0.31 on Ubuntu Gutsy, Firefox version 2.0.0.8. I have my sync file on my own server, sync over FTP. The foxmarks upgrade reset my settings so I had to set it up again, and I did, but now it won't sync. It sits on "Verifying account" forever. I know I put in the right password and login.
ReplyDeleteWell, the old version (1.01) is not working either at this moment against the Foxmarks server as it's stuck at Downloading Sync File
ReplyDelete@Randy
ReplyDeleteJust to point out: Firefox automatically makes backups of bookmarks. So, if someone has lost all of their bookmarks (due to a Foxmarks issue or otherwise), they can find them in their FireFox profile folder, under the subfolder "bookmarkbackups".
This saved my butt today... ;-)
Just FYI, the web page is also not working for me, I just get a blank page:
ReplyDeletehttp://jezebel.foxmarks.com/foxmarks-2.0.31.xpi
Also, I'm still on 2.0.29 and when I attempt to sync I get Internal Server Error.
Regardless, I appreciate your efforts at making things right.
Just to let you know, on Mac osx it wouldn't work either. Kept saying foxmarks is busy, but no synch possible. Uninstalled and reinstalled the old version. No damage done and your work is appreciated anyhow.
ReplyDelete@Mark: You might need to add "jezebel.foxmarks.com" to the servers allowed to install extensions on your computer, or else copy the link and paste it into a new window or tab--Firefox apparently doesn't like it very much if you click directly through from this page.
ReplyDeleteI updated one computer to 2.0.31, but can not update the other, so sync is not working.
ReplyDeleteI have allowed jezebel to install extensions, and accepted cookies. When I click the link
http://jezebel.foxmarks.com/foxmarks-2.0.31.xpi
or paste it to an empty tab, the download/install process starts as usual, but then ends and a popup appears:
""
Firefox could not install the file at
http://jezebel.foxmarks.com/foxmarks-2.0.31.xpi
because: Download error
-228
""
What should I do? Can I go back to the old version on both computers?
@Janne: You have the option of going back to version 1 on both computers, but the Mozilla people have some suggestions on what to do when you see the Download error -228 message. Check out this link for more details.
ReplyDelete> Please close acct. Application not complete. changed my mind
ReplyDelete>Thank you Pearl Church
@Pearl: Please write to support@foxmarks.com if you need help deleting your Foxmarks account.
ReplyDeleteI uninstalled Foxmarks 2.0 and reinstalled Foxmarks 1.0 but now cannot download from the server. An error message comes on that says "forbidden". The help page indicates that if you upgraded to 2.0 version, you cannot go back to the 1.0 version. You HAVE to upgrade all your computers to the 2.0 version. Now that they've withdrawn the newer version, what are you supposed to do?
ReplyDelete@smh: Sorry about that; we've fixed the help page for the error message to provide information for both 1.0.1 and 2.0 versions. If you'd like to keep using version 2, you can download the most recent update via the link provided in this blog post.
ReplyDelete2.0.34 is slower and seems to eat more resources and perhaps a worse user-interface and ultimately never completes a sync. I have tried off and on for days, including today. The errors change (currently "network timeout error"), but the results stay the same. Three machines, 2 XP, and one Mac at a different location, and zero ability to sync with 2.0.34.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the program and trying to improve it. It has been wonderful and needed.
To me this no longer appears to be a busy server problem but rather a buggy program. I'm going back to 1.0.1, again. And I'm going to get Firefox to stop trying to upgrade all the time.
I have the old version and I get the network thing. Really frustrating. I did upgrade but I couldnt' get the new version to work and simply reverted to the old. Now that doesn't work either. Guys, I'd really appreciate it if you could email me what you currently believe to be the best solution. I'ts a great program when it works! And I really appreciate your efforts.
ReplyDeleteGuys
ReplyDeleteMine was hanging at "verifying account" as some of you have noted.
Do yourself a favour and go through the settings, including the advanced settings, methodically. I found that the new version had boned my settings by enabling "use own server" (i have never used my own server) with a blank server name. Double check that every setting is as you had it for version 1. I'll almost guarantee that it aint ;)
Hope that helps
