Foxmarks 2: The Gift That Keeps On Giving

As we head into the holiday weekend, we wanted to give an update to those of you who have followed the nail-biting thriller of this week's Foxmarks 2 upgrade.

We've made a series of changes to our server configuration to increase efficiency, improve throughput, and expand overall capacity. (We'll be taking the service down for about 30 minutes tomorrow morning Pacific Time to make one last change.) At the same time, the incoming rush has largely died down; the activity that places the highest load on our service -- bringing in a new user's complete set of bookmarks -- has abated.

These two factors have allowed us increasingly to meet overall user demand. During the busiest time of the day when demand may exceed our capacity, we throttle access to prevent the service from bogging down. If you have automatic sync enabled and you get throttled with the message "Server is currently unavailable," Foxmarks will simply try again later. Eventually, it will get through. Regardless, we expect that we won't be throttling anyone at all over the coming days, as the last of the Foxmarks 1.0.1 users upgrade to Foxmarks 2. To date, 80% have made the switch.

If you have further questions, please check out the FAQ that we prepared regarding the update.

And, as a final gift: this very blog post for those of you who'd like to pile on in the comments section -- the previous one was getting a bit unwieldy.

As always, thanks for your support.

You guys deserve heaps of accolades for this remarkable FREE software. Like others, I experienced problems. Massive numbers of people were upgrading and syncing, of course there would be overload.
I hope you, your families and loved ones all have a very Merry Xmas and a Wonderful New Year.

  6. Still can't synch for 4-5 days now.
Before it just hung - now get "Synch error"
    Pretty poor show.

  10. Best case, all my separators have doubled up. Worse case, there were once bookmarks between all those pairs of separators.

    Disconcerting either way.

Fortunately I imported all my bookmarks into Opera a week or so ago, so at some point I'll eyeball the two sets and see how they match up.

Anyway, thought I'd post a report. I'm very reliant on this add-on, and thank you for it, but these past few days have been a challenge.

  11. I have been trying for 3 days to sync bookmarks on 3 different computers. I keep getting the server is busy message.

Do you know when you will be increasing through put so that there will be "less down time"?
