Foxmarks 2.0.39 Removed From AMO

As promised in our previous post, we have pulled Foxmarks 2.0.39 from the Mozilla Add-ons site. From what we can see on our end, no new problems have appeared among the group of users who have downloaded and installed this version, so you should expect it to re-appear on the Add-ons site later this weekend. As we mentioned before, we are being extremely cautious and want to make sure that everything is smooth before proceeding to full deployment of the new version.

Nonetheless, if you're interested in running the latest version, you are welcome to download it from our site -- and we encourage you to do so. It's available here.

  2. Hello, first of all I thank you for your effort to bring foxmarks to a good end.

But sometimes foxmarks kills my new added bookmarks when my second notebook is switched on. I am sure that I synchronised the changed Bokkmarks either manual or after 5 minutes automatically. In this case both notebooks show after the next synchronistion the old unchanged bookmarkversion. I use the foxmarks preloader. Perhaps this may cause ths effect.

  3. I'm afraid I'm going to have to find another way to synch my bookmarks between my desktop and laptop after Foxmarks managed to delete half of mine from both machines. I've managed to get an older copy of the bookmarks using an old Foxmark profile that I'd used prior to the last set of problems with the software but I'm afraid I've now had my fingers burnt once too often.

Sorry guys but I think you need to have a good look into the changes you've made to the software as the old version 1.x never seemed to have a tenth of the problems of the new versions.

  4. Ian,

I don't know how or why you've experienced these problems.
I've re-installed Firefox a dozen times running Foxmarks has been a saving experience. No bookmarks ever lost from the beginning (except once which was my fault).

  5. 2.0.39 is working very well between and among my various Linux and Windows XPP machines. I haven't noticed a single missed automatic update.

Thank you for all your hard work (and caution!)

  7. Why upgrade to 2.0 from something that worked perfectly before?

If you read around forums everywhere, people are having huge problems with 2+ versions.

Too bad, because it used to work.

  9. @Wolfgang: Are you using the same version of Foxmarks in both browsers? The behavior you describe sounds vaguely like you're maybe using version 1 and 2 in each browser, and those versions don't synchronize properly against one another.

@Ian: Actually, version 1 would occasionally bump into issues like that, mostly due to Firefox profile corruption, which can happen even if you're not using Foxmarks at all. Correlation isn't always causation.

@Thomas: People were having problems, yes, but mostly due to the server problems we've been working on throughout the holidays. We've put those behind us now, and are just working out a few edge cases in the client now. If you look at timestamps on the forum postings, you'll notice very few problems reported since the 11th.

As for why a new version--in order to implement features that people have been eagerly awaiting, we needed to shift to a new server architecture. The migration was a rougher road than we had hoped, but it seems to be smooth asphalt now.

@all who offered thanks: You're very welcome, and thank you for sticking with us.

  11. @renee: No need to apologize, though more details are always recommended. Maybe send us the last several dozen lines of your foxmarks.log file so we can figure out what's going on?

  12. Been on v2 since 2.0.34, just upgraded from 2.0.38 to 2.0.39 earlier today and everything went fine. Only problem I'd been having with 0.38 was occasional server unavailoability, usually when America woke up (I'm in UK).

I had to go back to v1 in the early days of v2, but you guys have done a grand job and I'm glad I kept coming back to see how things were going.

Surely the reducing number of posts indicates the vast majority are now happy with things, I just hope those still experiencing problems will re-visit their local installations to make sure they have a clean install before assuming it's still the offering.

    Just noticed you've released 2.0.41 - will I ever catch up?! ;-)
