We just released Foxmarks 2.0.41 to the Mozilla Add-ons site (AMO). This version is essentially the same as 2.0.39 (the version that was up on AMO for several hours last week), but with two additional minor bug-fixes rolled in. We recommend that everyone upgrade to at least version 2.0.39.
As always, you're welcome to post your experiences here. If you are having a problem and would like a response, please write to customer support instead; we can't respond to specific customer issues here on the blog.
Hi
ReplyDeleteThis version works with my Mac but not the windows. Hmm....
Works fine for me on Windows XP SP2 and Firefox 2.0.0.11
ReplyDeleteFoxmarks just wiped off all my bookmarks and I'm left with nothing. 2 of my computers are now without any bookmarks and I've logged in to My Foxmarks and it's also empty.
ReplyDeleteMy only hope is now the home computer. Thank god I ripped off my modem last night. If not it would have suffered the same.
Everything was working well on 2.0.36, until I upgraded to 2.0.41. Now I get a proxy error. Great... :(
ReplyDeleteeeps.. a bit insecure, I tried to sync with a Ubuntu FF install.. and it wiped out the server side, instead of downloading, I suspect that wrong versions of Foxmarks were at play. I subsequently have seen 2 more updates... but manually monitor and initiate the transfers now. I've got a lot of time invested in these bookmarks and would hate them to just vanish.
ReplyDeleteI also utilize 'Scrapbook' a nice add-on, would be really nice if you could also sync that menu. I keep well used keyboard short cut reminders and misc tips.tricks.. nice to spread that to all the machines I link up with.
Working through proxy.
ReplyDeleteFirefox 2.0.0.11 and Foxmarks 2.0.41, all ok. Thanks. ;)
This version is working great! thanks!
ReplyDeleteI test the v2.xx on 3 workstations, getting always errors wenn i sync f.a. 304
ReplyDeleteWhen i disable my antivirus-client (Eset Nod32 v.3.x), snyc works fine.
So Foxmarks is blocked by the antivirus-client, can somebody confirm this bug ??
Now i can sync manually when i disable my antivirus, but thats not really a workaround.
Please fix that antivirus bug, i think i cannot put foxmarks to the whitelist...
One thing I truly don't get is WHY does Foxmarks insist on bugging me with a dialog whether I want it updated. Firefox has a built-in mechanism for that for Pete's sake!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, this anti-feature must go or at least come with an option, it's so annoying!
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI didn't see problems on my 3 computers !
Your tool is wonderful !
When do you think the upgrade for Firefox 3 will be implemented ?
Seb
another problem i think is the HUGE logging file int he profile folder. when logging is not disabled, the log file can get over 10mb.
ReplyDeletebetter would be feature like "log file not over 4096 kb" or something else
Working for me (running my own server).
ReplyDeleteWorking beautifully for me on XP SP2....
ReplyDeleteawesome, love this product
ReplyDeleteBACKUP your Foxmarks!
ReplyDeleteI don't trust the server completely, so I've been saving the MyFoxmarks pages since I started using the program.
Just Save As and name it something like Foxmarks 011508.
Cheap insurance!
I should add, you MUST use Grid View and save each individual page relative to how many bookmarks you have (for example, 159 bookmarks = 6 pages). Otherwise, IF the server goes down or corrupts/erases your entries, you won't have all your bookmarks! (if you save with Classic View)
ReplyDeleteHey, Foxmarks team, can you add an "easy backup" feature in the next release?
One more addition: I played around with MyFoxmarks a bit, and found that if you expand ALL folders and THEN save the Classic View, you WILL have all your links on one page for backup!
ReplyDeleteWorks great on my3 computers. XP SP3, Vista Ultimate x64 SP1,
ReplyDeleteVista Home pro. All running firefox 2.0.0.11
I just upgraded to the v2.0.41. Unfortunately, all my bookmarks has been disappeared. Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled v1.0.1 and it works well. Any suggestions if we would like to keep all v1.0.1 bookmarks and upgrade to v2.0.41. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions for the bookmark backup? How can I do that? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteFirefox actually provides backups of your bookmarks by default. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_Bookmarks for more details. For people who are having problems switching from version 1 to version 2, please see http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmarks:_Foxmarks_Version_2_Upgrade_FAQ
ReplyDeleteIt's working fine on Vista x32 and on UHU-Linux, Firefox 2.0.0.11... Thank you guys! :)
ReplyDeleteFor not the first time I have lost all my toolbar entries.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can tell, all my other bookmarks are ok.
This seems to happen on every version bump.
It works fine on my windows XP as well..
ReplyDeleteHey Guys, could you make the bookmarks available via rss? It would be very good! So I could share the bookmarks with other people..
Thanks for foxmarks!
Works just fine on Windows XP Pro and Firefox - the following copied and pasted from the Firefox 'About' dialog box:
ReplyDeleteMozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11
Great product - thanks
Installed 2.0.41 on two Macs running OS 10.4.10.
ReplyDeleteWhen I attempted syncs I got 'server error' messages, and the sync failed.
Sticking to 1.0.1. That's the last version of Foxmarks that's worked on my computers.
The synchronization process seems never end on my firefox.
ReplyDeleteno error message, and only start signals in log file.
also no status in that foxmarks:status dialog, only shows last sync followed with a blank.
I've already tried to uninstall & reinstall it, what else I can do?
@Richard: Please send us your foxmarks.log file using the instructions at http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmarks:_Sending_us_your_Log_File and we'll do our best to help you with version 2. Version 1.0.1 won't be supported indefinitely.
ReplyDelete@Noreqiz: Did you already check the migration FAQ for suggestions? http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmarks:_Foxmarks_Version_2_Upgrade_FAQ
On each of my almost identical setups Foxmarks blows Firefox memory up over 550+ MB and totally overtakes the browser.
ReplyDeleteThis is useless, since I bookmark a lot (3.500 - 400 bookmarks) therefore there is a lot of synching. This must run smoothely in the background - not kill my notebooks.
After the problems syncing I waited and re-enabled just now...the upgrade went smooth, initial sync was fast (3,000) bookmarks, made 75 changes, all was smooth with default sysnc.
ReplyDeleteyes, your lovely update wiped all my bookmarks too. not knowing this, I told it to overwrite the server with the local bookmarks (I had just added a few) so it wiped the server too. this is on windows XP
ReplyDeletefortunately a little digging in the application data folder reveals a backup folder of bookmarks, and the previous day's backup can be copied over the current one.
what a waste of time though. Feh.
@Doug Johnson: Actually, it appears your bookmarks might have been wiped out by an oddity in the behavior of the Firefox web browser, and then your doing an upload overwrote the data on the server. I'm curious--why do an upload when a merge would have preserved your data?
ReplyDeleteIt appears we should maybe put something in the upload warning that points out the number of bookmarks you're uploading, but since the upload isn't the default, we're curious as to why you'd use it at all.
I don't know about Macs, but Firefox on Windows should have a bookmarkbackups folder in your profile.
ReplyDeletecheck out this error popup window

After I upgraded to this version, I have never been able to sync my bookmark at all on XP SP2.
Just lost all of my bookmarks.Thanks.
ReplyDeleteHope there is still something to do to recover.
Works fine for me on Ubuntu 7.10 but not Windows XP SP2
ReplyDeleteI really like this extension, but I'm getting paranoid about the whole thing. I read this blog every couple of days, and I always see at least one post from somebody who's lost his/her bookmarks. And so, yet again, I backup my bookmarks just in case. I don't mind doing it, but I must admit it's getting tiresome.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently using version 2.0.36, which seems to be working just fine, and I'm not going to update again until I come back here and see the majority saying that all is well.
XP home SP2 - 2 computers
Hi,
ReplyDeleteThis version is working great !
Working fine for me on XP Pro and on Vista Home Prem
ReplyDeleteHi guys
ReplyDeleteI had written some days ago that i got last syn on January 2nd (always getting sync error). I was invited to send last part of my log file to customer support which i did but received no reply except a ticket number.
Finally i fixed the problem. I entered Settings - Advanced tab. There you find "Force overwrite of server bookmarks". I pressed upload button near it. Sync was successful and till now sync is working well.
Hope it was of help to others. Keep up your good work because it is really a useful tool especially when one is using another computer and needs to use his bookmarks (like when travelling)
Thanks Renee.
ReplyDeleteI was having the same problem and your method helped.
I can't sync and sync all the time. why?
ReplyDeleteTo back up your bookmarks in firefox (suggest doing this before any foxmarks upgrades):
ReplyDeleteBookmarks > Organise bookmarks > File > Export
This will save your bookmarks to a file. In case you lose your bookmarks, you can get them back using this file as:
Bookmarks > Organise bookmarks > File > Import
I love Foxmarks, but none of the 2.x "upgrades" have worked for me. I get proxy errors or just plan refusal to sync.
ReplyDeleteI am still using 1.01 until the 2.x line becomes as easy and reliable to use.
Foxmarks does not sync with the server when you update the name of a bookmark (not the url, just the name) so when you sync from another computer the bookmarks are still with their old names.
ReplyDelete@Sam: The upgrade FAQ covers proxy problems: http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmarks:_Foxmarks_Version_2_Upgrade_FAQ
ReplyDelete@Daniel: We've never been able to replicate the behavior you describe. Perhaps you're using version 1 in one browser and version 2 in the other? The two don't synchronize to the same place.
@renee: I'd be curious to find out the ticket number, as our records show that we've responded to everyone who's written in up through last Friday.
@Tony: There's a problem with the Chinese localization that we're working on, and I suspect that's what you're encountering.
Eric, both are 2.0.41 I updated them as soon it was on AMO. Here is what I did:
ReplyDelete1 - Changed the name of a bookmark in computer 1 (Windows xp)
2 - Foxmarks didn't notice that i changed something
3 - Synced manually
4 - Went to computer 2 (linux) and synced foxmarks, no changes in the names I made on computer 1
5 -Went back to computer 1, and eventually the sync makes the bookmarks change back to their original names
So besides not updating the name it is also reverting to the original name if have synced with another pc that has the old names before
Great addon though, i have been using it for some time, it is just a small glitch
Go figure... as i was writing this Foxmarks did notice the name change, go figure... perhaps it will work now when i use pc2 in work
ReplyDeletesorry for the trouble
@Eric
ReplyDeleteThe Foxmarks Helpdesk has opened a new ticket for you:
[Foxmarks #13962] Sync Error ......etc etc
This email was sent on January 17th
On 20th January i sent another email reminder.
Never mind now as long as i managed to sort it out (and helped another user sort it out - as it seems from blog)
I have same problem with bookmarks name that is marked by Daniel.
ReplyDeleteChange bookmarks name on home pc, it is not updated in the office pc.
Both pc with xin xp sp2
I'm afraid that after yet again having my bookmarks reverted to an earlier version by Foxmarks screwing up, I'll be uninstalling it. In this case, I think what happened was that me running a version of Firefox that Foxmarks supposedly wasn't compatible with, somehow caused it to revert back to earlier bookmarks, even though the profile was the same. I'd rather sync them by hand than have Foxmarks occasionally remove my data. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteSynced my local bookmarks today with the one held remotely on foxmarks only to find out that my remote bookmarks are all gone. I definitely set it to merge local and remote but not overwrite it. Is there to recover my bookmarks pls???
ReplyDeleteThanks in advance
@gabriel (and others): Keep in mind that we don't provide support on the blog, and we have an extensive wiki to help you out--if you don't find your answer at http://wiki.foxmarks.com/wiki/Foxmarks:_Disappearing_Bookmarks, then send us an email.
ReplyDeleteAlso, to be perfectly clear: We have NEVER encountered a case where Foxmarks causes a loss of bookmarks data. It's almost always Firefox's acknowledged problem of data loss due to an unclean shutdown.
