Password Sync: What happens in Profiles, stays in Profiles

As many of you know, we are currently running a beta program for our new password synchronization feature. Today we released an updated version (2.2.0.17) that allows you to assign passwords to a Sync Profile. This means that you now have complete control over which passwords get synced to which computers. Keep your banking passwords at home and your work related passwords at the office!

If you haven't already, join the Password Synchronization beta. Or, learn more about how password synchronization works and how secure it is here.

To setup Sync Profiles for your passwords, visit my.foxmarks.com and click on "Sync Profiles" and then follow these steps:

  • Select the profile you want to change.

  • From the drop-down, select "Passwords".

  • Enter your PIN so you can select passwords
    (see why this is secure).

  • Pick which passwords should or should not belong to this profile.

  1. It's great - but we lost the chance to use our own server...

  2. I have been hoping that you guys would roll out such a feature! However, I think I am missing something. Foxmarks never prompts me re: whether I want it to 'remember/sync' a particular site password.

Is there a setting within Firefox that I am supposed to have activated or de-activated?

  4. Hey Gaurav,

I made sure to have the Passwords checkbox selected. After that, I would go to a site, log out of it (if I was already logged in) and then re-login. I never got a pop up from Foxmarks asking if I wanted it to capture the login details.

Are there any Firefox preference settings re: remembering passwords that tie into this? I currently have those settings de-activated.

    Thanks!!

  8. Foxmarks Rocks! Password sync is exactly what I wanted, and it's all encrypted before it leaves my box. Keep up the good work.

  10. I really like the feature, its just a pitty it doesnt work in Firefox 2, cause i use a mac laptop G4 MacOS 10.2.8 and Firefox 3 doesnt install only Firefox 2. So i cant use the new passwords sync feature in foxmarks. my Mac is still great so no point in buying a new computer just for the features.

  11. I have the same problem Brian reported. I'm using an iMac. I have set everything correctly in preferences, but Firefox never asks me if I want it to remember a password. "Remember passwords for sites" is checked. The exceptions list is empty. The "Always clear my private data when I close Firefox" box is not checked.

    Any ideas?
