Xmarks for Internet Explorer and Safari

We're excited to announce that Xmarks is now available for Internet Explorer and Safari (Mac OSX)!

With the new Xmarks versions, you'll still enjoy bookmark sync, backup, and all the features you love about Foxmarks. In addition, you'll have access to Smarter Search, a new discovery feature that helps you learn more about top sites when you search on Google, Yahoo or Microsoft Live Search. IE and Safari don't include the Site Info feature yet, but will soon.

If you haven't already, please take a moment to upgrade to the new Xmarks versions. If you do nothing, you’ll receive notification of an available upgrade in the coming days as we complete the transition from Foxmarks to Xmarks.

Internet Explorer users can also download Xmarks from Microsoft's own add-ons site. If you use Internet Explorer, please share your experience by reviewing Xmarks on IEAddons.com.

  1. Are there plans to make Xmarks available for Safari on Windows? This would be great because I could sync my bookmarks with my iPhone :-)

Or even better: Do you intend to reveil an Xmarks for iPhone - aka "iXmarks" :-)

  7. Was very excited until I realized that I have to have Leopard on my Macbook to install the Safari plugin. Since I have no plans to upgrade to Leopard (my Macbook is almost 2 years old so would be too slow for it) can you make an installer that works on Mac OS X 10.4? Thanks.

  9. orntar: http://getsatisfaction.com/foxmarks/topics/foxmarks_to_xmarks_can_i_disable_the_discovery_features

I think the option is in the same menu as for the discovery stuffs. If it's not, just browse the Xmarks options a bit and you should find it pretty quickly. ;)

  10. Drew: I understand that Foxmarks and Firefox bugs you when there's an update, but since it was stable, and you were using your own server, and (I assume) there was no obvious incentive to upgrade, then why did you?

Also, there are some posts in various places about how to disable Firefox's notification of an update for the Foxmarks addon. Not here of course, and it's a little late now I guess, but if you're still interested you should be able to find it if you search around. I'm pretty sure there's a post at http://getsatisfaction.com/foxmarks , but it should be pretty to find on any search engine if it's not there. Just search "disable foxmarks update". ;)

  11. Oh, and it's always a good idea to check support forums to see if an update causes any problems before committing to it; at least when it involves important information (I do realize you can't do that for everything, but it's good to place priority on certain things). There were discussions about the problems you experienced on getsatisfaction, and somewhat resolved. If you do see that others are having problems with an update, and they say a solution will be in a later version, then it's a good idea to wait for that if you can.
