New Xmarks Beta Available (Firefox only)

Xmarks users, help us develop our newest Xmarks for Firefox features!  We’re hard at work on a set of new “Smarter Search” features and we’re inviting you to try them out and give us feedback.

Sign up for our new beta program and you’ll receive a special version of Xmarks: all the same sync features you know and love plus some cool new search and discovery features. You don’t need to re-register; all your existing bookmarks and settings will work fine as is. We hope you’ll choose to be one of the first to try this out and your feedback will be a strong voice in the product direction for Xmarks.

Click here to sign up and install Xmarks version 3.2. Once you do, just keep using the Web the way you normally do and see if you agree that Xmarks helps make your web search a little bit smarter.

We look forward to hearing your feedback!

-James

p.s. before you start typing a comment to this post that we should support Chrome, please read: WE’RE REALLY WORKING ON IT! We’re just awaiting the local storage API from Google (coming soon) and hope to get Xmarks for Chrome to market quickly after that.

  2. Awesome, James!

Keep up the great work you're doing with XMarks.
I just made some plugin cleaning on my Firefox, and found out that the only one I really really need is XMarks!

Switching to Google Chrome or Firefox 3.5 is tempting, but not an option 'till Xmarks is fully working on them... ;)

It always took me lots of time having to copy the entire Firefox profile from desktop to pendrive... thanks for making my routine far easier! :D

  5. Personally, I would like to see the search assistant work with more search engines than just Google. I use Bing a lot now and its not supported as far as I can see.

I think its a great tool when you are searching for something obscure and someone has bookmarked the one website out of a million that has the right info. Saved me a couple of times now.

  6. You should probably think of ways to making the program more secure rather than more intrusive. After I installed your software, I ended up with a password list full of strangers and someone has tried to hack several of my accounts, including PayPal and Rapid Share. I've shut the thing off for good.

  8. That is great news! I'm really excited to see xMarks release their Chrome plug-in. I think that is the last feature I'm missing in chrome.

    Thanks for the update!

  9. While I agree with how incredibly useful your app is, the MOST important thing is indeed SECURITY.

In the last 2 months, I've had my paypal account attacked and one of my credit cards compromised.

I would hate for this to have been your fault, but Joshua's comment that the same thing happened to him has me debating on removing xmarks for good.

Before you expand into all the various browsers, your TOP priority is to ensure the SAFETY and SECURITY of all your loyal users. Otherwise you'll drop off the charts and into obscurity as all that support evaporates!

Your software should NOT be a security hole in any browser!!!!

Please please please beef up security for users. Your application is only as good as the security it provides!

  11. @Joshua and @William, we strongly encourage you to contact support @ Xmarks.com if you believe you’ve encountered a bug in our software. We take security very seriously and have not had any security problems reported with our secure password sync feature. In fact, it is highly improbable that Xmarks could cause someone else’s passwords to appear on your machine as passwords are locally encrypted and decrypted with a PIN that Xmarks does not have access to; you the user must enter the same PIN on each computer that you want passwords to sync to. You can learn more about how Xmarks password sync works here: http://www.xmarks.com/about/features/secure_password_sync

  13. While this new discovery stuff is all well and good, what happened to the list of things you guys were going to work on syncing besides bookmarks/passwords? That's the stuff I'm personally more excited about.

  15. Xmarks worked flawlessly with Firefox 3.5 and the Firefox 3.5.1 upgrade that followed. I had no problems at all. I have been using Firefox since it was Firebird. If I am not mistaken, the name had to be changed because of a conflict with another open source database project that was named Firebird. The Mozilla Foundation graciously agreed to find another name to avoid conflict. I do not understand this report of xmarks not working on Firefox 3.5 or 3.5.1. Plus, I am running it on Windows XP, Windows Vista and on Ubuntu/Kubuntu Linux 9.04 without any problems. I highly recommend xmarks. Now that I have it, I would be lost without at least once a month for a few days and cannot always have access to my own computer.

  16. ** Let me correct the last part of that comment which should have read: Now that I have it, I would be lost without it. At least once a month I travel for a few days and cannot always have access to one of my own computers that has xmarks installed.
