Since we first launched Xmarks for Chrome last August, you've been asking us when we're going to add password sync. Does today work for you?
Xmarks now synchronizes your bookmarks, passwords, and open tabs across both Firefox and Chrome!
UPDATE: We've released a new version of Xmarks for Chrome that includes (as a default-off option) password sync. You can find it here in the Google Extensions Gallery.
Just like our password sync in Firefox, password sync in Chrome is 100% optional and is turned off by default. Your passwords are secured by encrypting them before they leave your computer with a PIN that only you know. (Learn more about how we keep your password information safe.)
Unlike Firefox, Chrome's built-in password manager is not available to extension developers; so instead we have created our own Xmarks password manager that you can access from the Xmarks settings. And if you need any more encouragement to give it a try, remember we recently released Restore for passwords, so you can go back again if anything goes wrong (which it won't!).
Please give it a try and let us know how it goes for you in the comments here or on our support forum.
Great! I waited for that feature a long time :-)
ReplyDeleteIt seems to work ;-)
PS: I'm waiting for Xmarks for Firefox 4 now
Seems to not want to save passwords with Chrome Developer 6.0.458.1
ReplyDeleteKeeps telling me that theres no password to sync, after having logged in :(
Woohoooo! Thanks! Been a user since Foxmarks Beta :)
ReplyDeleteWorks 100%. Great!
ReplyDeleteWhat about support for Xmarks for Safari?
Firefox 4. just release it. you already have the fix
ReplyDelete:(
Just as I got over waiting for this feature I converted to lastpass to sync my passwords.
ReplyDeleteI use a mix of Firefox and Chrome on multiple computers. I installed the new Xmarks with password Sync on Chrome on the laptop.
ReplyDeleteAfter the first sync of bookmarks and passwords from Chrome on the laptop, I found that in Firefox, on both laptop and desktops, all my passwords were gone. Luckily, there is password restore now.
I decided to disable password sync in Chrome for the time being.
Yeah, now I don't care it Google brings out a Google Toolbar for Chrome. This does everything I need :)
ReplyDeleteThis version is completely nonfunctional for me.
ReplyDeleteXmarks is currently synchronizing, no changes can be made until it is finished.
Bookmarks: Error
Passwords: In Progress...
Tabs: Pending...
It's been "in progress" on the Passwords for half an hour, and I finally aborted it.
@Heptite: Can you try restarting Chrome, opening the Xmarks log file, and then trying again? Details on how to access the log file are under the advanced Xmarks settings tab. If there is an error you should see it in the Xmarks log.

Colin: I tried that, but it didn't work until I realized that somehow Chrome had several threads that would not shut down until I killed them by hand from the task manager. Then I instructed Xmarks to download and overwrite the local bookmarks and passwords.
ReplyDeleteAt first it didn't download all my passwords, so I told it to download again and this time it appears to have all of them.
Now it appears everything is working normally.
Seems to work, but how exactly it co-exists with Chrome internal passwords beats me. The dialog that pops up when I enter a new password looks non-standard and seems to halt Chrome in its tracks.
ReplyDeleteUninstalled because Chrome performance went down too much - what are you doing there in the background??
I will download Xmarks Password Sync for Chrome. Thanks
