Today we're excited to announce that Xmarks has been acquired by LastPass, makers of a leading cross-platform password manager. It's a great opportunity that ensures the survival of Xmarks as the same service that you know and love.
In the last few years, we've attracted over 4.5 million users syncing more than 1 billion bookmarks across 5 million computers. Most importantly, we've provided a simple solution to help people easily access their bookmarks, wherever and whenever they needed to. We've had thousands of users tell us that Xmarks has become an integral part of their browsing experience. You can rest assured that LastPass will continue to build upon the service in the coming months.
We're also committed to keeping Xmarks free while implementing a viable long-term plan. Xmarks is transitioning to a "freemium" business model, the same model that allowed LastPass to grow into a thriving, profitable business. The browser add-on and the vast majority of what users have enjoyed remains free. Users can then opt to purchase Xmarks Premium for $12 per year, which includes new enhanced features like Android and iPhone mobile phone apps, priority support, and more. The Xmarks and LastPass Premium offerings are also available bundled together at a reduced subscription rate of $20 per year. For those of you who pledged your financial support, you can make good on your pledge today and upgrade.
The restructuring of the Xmarks offerings will accelerate the introduction of new features and service improvements. The two services will continue to require separate downloads and will be administered through two distinct extensions and websites, although there are plans to integrate them in the future.
We believe the acquisition will prove to be a success because of the common mission shared by LastPass and Xmarks. Xmarks complements LastPass' vision of secure, universal access to the information that gives you entry to your digital life. By joining LastPass, Xmarks will also be able to accelerate the introduction of new features and developments. As the ultimate cross-browser, cross-platform team, Xmarks and LastPass will work together to help more people simplify their digital lives and access their data from anywhere, at any time.
We're excited to join forces with LastPass and be a part of a team that will continue to provide the best data-syncing tools out there! We hope you will support both of these great services through your business and your Premium subscription. For more information, please see the FAQs.
The Xmarks & LastPass Teams
This is seriously good news! Like when someone first combined Chocolate & Peanut Butter good news. LastPass is great, but definitely missing what XMarks offers, it's great to know XMarks will integrate with LastPass in the future.
ReplyDeleteI tried using Firefox & Google Sync, both were terrible leaving me with 4x copies of all of my bookmarks, and it was a mess! So glad to hear XMarks will live on!
This is awesome news :)
ReplyDeleteas a premo lastpass subscriber i'll up it another $8 for the yr.
suppose i should install xmarks again, didn't reinstall it after format since your "we are stopping" announcement cause it kinda stopped working properly, lost a lot of bookmarks and it sucked, so just went with chrome and google sync and "too bad, so sad"'d the firefox bookmarks
oh well since you are gonna be around now I'll sort out my bookmarks once and for all, good times :)
Thank for both teams! It's a great decision.
ReplyDeleteGreat news! You just made my day!
ReplyDeleteoh gosh! this one is indeed very good news for me!
ReplyDeleteMe like to use your service very much, -I fell in love with it, seriously- .
Once you've given me some optional for browser built-in bookmark / password sync, but it turned out not very good, and it was such a disaster. Some of my browser histories & bookmarks got obliterated, glad I make it somehow ... :(
And for "LastPass" , I haven't tried the service before, perhaps I'll try it soon, since both LastPass & Xmarks are "friends" :D
Anyway, thanks a bunch for giving me such big help with this tremendously good service of yours ...
Sincerely, your daily user,
Biyan
My 2 Favourite Services, great news and congrats.
ReplyDeleteToday the Internet achieved something.
ReplyDeleteWe took you for granted Xmarks, we used you as much as we wanted. We took, and took and took.
Today, we give back.
Maybe humanity does have some hope left.

Xmarks+LastPass sounds great. now if you had a lovechild, would it be called XPass or LastMarks? ;-)
ReplyDeleteI never thought I will see the day when LastPass and Xmarks joining forces. Good job for the both of you.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm in love!!! Fantastic news!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous. I've used LastPass about as long as Xmarks, and am a premium user there. This makes me very happy.
ReplyDelete(And, yes, I see the hint and realize it's time to pony up to meet my pledge. :-) )
Just purchased the premium service like I pledged...
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
OUTSTANDING. BRILLIANT! Being discriminating consumers of good, functional and simple solutions, I'm not surprised to note that many XMarks users are also LastPass users, so this is indeed a match made in heaven and a bit of a dream come true.
ReplyDeleteAND as noted above, we are now seeing a new Android app in the Android market, I'm extra thrilled about that and can't wait to try it out.
Who would have ever thought that such a teaming of forces in the software world would have sparked such joy?
Congratulations to both companies, and I think we'll all be watching in interest to see what kinds of new things will develop from the combined synergies of two such excellent companies.
Now, both of you, go forth, prosper, and make a lot of money.
Great stuff!
ReplyDeleteI have already subscribed to the Premium service!!!
To me, a great b-day gift. Yeeeee!!!
ReplyDelete$12 dollars well spent. You upheld your end and so did I...now to play around with all those fancy new features :)
ReplyDeleteThis is great news! I thought I have to say goodbye to my smooth, problem-free bookmarks syncing. I actually planned to unsubscribe and uninstall XMarks on December 31 . . . but now, I'm happy that I can keep my XMarks.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to check the premium services . . . GO, XMARKS/LASTPASS!!!
Xmarks+LastPass=Ultimate browser sync combo!
ReplyDeleteHard to give money when I found new service bookmark.com that is similar service to xmarks.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good news. I'm a long time user of both xmarks and lastpass and loving both! Glad to hear lastpass acquired xmarks instead of some unknown zyx venture/company.
ReplyDeleteI'm sold. Believe it or not, this is the final reason for me to buy a password manager as well. I'll be buying and downloading the bundle as soon as I find the link...
ReplyDeletethe two best together. now they can beat google ;)
ReplyDeletetchuss.
This is excellent! I already use both services and was contemplating signing up for the LastPass premium service. The combined option sounds great! :)
ReplyDeletewell, i don't have an android or iphone as of yet, but will have in the spring... but as you said, put up or shutup and $12/yr is half what I said I was willing to pay a couple months ago... Well Done guys Well Done!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!! Great news! Love them both.
ReplyDeleteI have been using Xmarks when it was Foxmarks and Lastpass for a few years now. Whenever I had to use them on another computer, like my mom's, I wished they were one product. Wish granted! They are both the perfect systems singly and now perfect as one. Hubby uses roboform and I always show off what he is missing. Congratulations on a perfect union! I can't wait to see what Xmarks can now do for mobile phones.
ReplyDeleteThis is great news and a decent price.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I'd like to see be an option is to be able to change your username, especially if we are subscribers.
It's an excellent news!
ReplyDeleteThe 2 best bookmark and password manager merging together!
I been waiting for this since Lastpass came out
ReplyDeleteAwesome. Give Cid a raise! Good work from the Head of Sales. Don't judge Sammy.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the Great work LASTPASS TEAM!
Ultimate browser sync combo!
ReplyDeleteExcited to see this unfold.
ReplyDeleteWhat about your "Smarter Search" service? That was one of my favorite parts about xmarks (those search tags were remarkably useful in finding relevant search results in categories with an overpopulation of low-quality resources (such as "free web hosts")). And, as you said in the list of alternatives link from your Sep. 27th blog post, there is no known alternative for this particular service.
ReplyDeleteplease support opera!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it! Well done Xmarks ;)
ReplyDeleteI am glad that Xmarks will live another day, but I am disappointed that Bookmark backup and restore will be gone from the free version, as well as Open Tab syncing.
ReplyDeletePlease allow use free users to have this functionality!
Great job so far Xmarks!
This is great news!!
ReplyDeleteNice to know that the service will continue. :)
Congratz to you guys...!
ReplyDeletelastpass and xmarks are two of my default tools for my syncing need, and now you work together...really great....!
will this mean that I will be receiving an upgrade to my iPad app?
ReplyDeleteAwesome combination of products! Will definitely purchase the combination package!
ReplyDeleteThat's is the best Christmas gift that I can receive this year :). I`m very close to buy a Galaxy smartphone :D, thx LastPass, thx Xmarks team, and congratulations.
ReplyDeleteCongrats and thanks. I won't get the combo pack, as the stuff LastPass syncs is all private information and I'd rather have as few copies of that around as possible.
ReplyDelete@William: I wonder how many others will miss Smarter Search. I disabled it, myself...
@Bob: I think it's entirely reasonable to charge for backup and open tab sync. Most users probably don't even realize Xmarks offers these features; and those that do are certainly heavy users who ought to be paying (if anyone should).
Congrats!
ReplyDeleteGood one guys. $12 a year is a pretty good price. Very pleased.
ReplyDeleteGod save the Xmarks ;-)
ReplyDeleteI will pay my due
Great! Now waiting for Opera extension :)
ReplyDeleteBoth apps are great. I m so happy that they are now together,.,,
ReplyDeleteTalk about a match-up of best-in-breed apps! I don't really need/want any of the features in LastPass Premium, but I may fork over the cash just to reward a good deed!
ReplyDeletePlease add support for Safari on Windows. I would love to be able to use Safari at work on Windows and sync with my Mac bookmarks at home. I know, I can use Firefox or Chrome, but I like Safari! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat news that Xmarks will continue, but another vote to retain Backup and Restore feature with the free version please, even with reduced numbers (say last 5 or 10 versions?).
ReplyDeleteChristmas has come early!
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic, I LOVE lastpass, can't live without it! This is going to make a great team!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Love that the first thing you did was add an Android client. I need to look into what lastpass adds to the equation to decide what subscription level I want, but will be subscribing today (who am I kidding, I'll probably go for the $20 even if I have no use for lastpass functionality.....)
ReplyDeleteAlan
awesome - pledge made ....
ReplyDeleteAny idea if existing owners of the Xmarks iphone app will still get service without upgrading?
ReplyDeleteThis is such good news. US$20 per year is a bargain for Xmarks alone IMHO, so the fact I've got it -- yes, I've done as I pledged -- together with LastPass can only be a WIN. Cheers, to the Xmarks and LastPass teams! Here's hoping it's a long and happy marriage!
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear!! I have just honored my pledge...Keep up the great work!!
ReplyDeleteNow i can sleep well.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect combination of strengths! Two of my favorite Web 2.0 services coming together. And thanks for the Android app, finally! Keep it up guys!
ReplyDeletePurchased, as pledged. Now waiting for Apple to do their bit and all will be complete!
ReplyDeleteDelighted to be able to honor my pledge; just bought Xmarks Premium.
ReplyDeleteFantastic news! I already use LastPass and had been mulling over getting a Premium subscription. Will now go and get the bundle.
ReplyDeletePERFECT match. I'm glad it worked out, and with such a like-minded group.
ReplyDeleteOutstanding news! I've honored my pledge by purchasing Xmarks Premium. Can't wait for the iPhone app. :)
ReplyDeleteGREAT NEWS! Congratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteNow the only other news i want the ear from you is that you will support Opera, PLEASE!
Thanks
Paid Paid Paid !!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for Saving Xmarks
There are not many services I pay for that don't reflect putting food on the table.
BUT xmarks gets a subscription.
Thanks for saving Xmarks. I just paid for the premium as promised.
ReplyDeleteGood news!
ReplyDeleteI saw the app on android market and WOW- it's today.
Awsome! Now I dont have to worry about where to go to sync my bookmarks.
ReplyDeleteJust upgraded to the bundle!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! This is a great matchup of two great services. And a combo brings the value to a point that makes sense to pay for.
ReplyDeleteNice! This blog post made my day! ;-) Just three weeks ago I looked for a backup solution to xmarks that would also store and synchronize my passwords and I decided to go with LastPass. I am really looking forward to the integration of both services!
ReplyDeleteGreat news and I vote for Opera support ASAP - thanks again LastPass!
ReplyDeleteJust linked my LastPass & Xmarks account and upgraded. Thanks a bunch for rescuing such a worthwhile service.
ReplyDeleteGreat News,
ReplyDeleteHave been a LastPass Premium user for awhile now and love their product model. Great News Indeed.
Great news! I can think of no better solution. I am already a LastPass Premium user and I will support Xmarks too. Heck, installing both Lastpass and Xmarks are one of the first tasks I do in every new computer I use.
ReplyDeleteGreat news, the bundle looks like a new solution to my current computer set up. Will give it a try
ReplyDeleteSuperb news - I rate Lastpass extremely highly so this is great news if the partnership continues to offer the service it has in the past.
ReplyDeleteI knew it. I'm a LastPass premium user. Been using LastPass across my PC and Android device and when the news came regarding Xmarks closure the company that first came to my mind that could "get" Xmarks was LastPass. The makes a lot of sense. Well count me in as one of the Lastpass + Xmarks bundle subscribers.
ReplyDeleteFor those of us who cancelled, any way to release our old usernames so that we can re-sign up? I want to sign up today if this happens.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Just paid my premium dues and I'm checking out the android app right now. Glad Xmarks is going to be around for a while longer!
ReplyDeleteI consider this to be the best of all possible news. Already a LastPass subscriber, I have immediately switched my membership to LastPass Premium+XMarks Premium.
ReplyDeleteThanks a million for this, LastPass.
This is the best news I've heard all day. I was dreading the death of Xmarks and since I've had a paid LastPass account for some time and love it, I can't think of a better outcome. Congrats to Xmarks and LastPass.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely good news!
ReplyDeleteF***********K YEAH!!!!
ReplyDeleteJust a quick question: When password sync will be disabled from Xmarks? (and so, can I resync my passwords with lastpass sharing my Xmarks login data?)
ReplyDeleteGreat news, congratulations! I'm one of those who pledged financial support, and as soon as I get an Android phone, I'll be sure to get the premium package. Thanks for making my cross-browser life easier!
ReplyDeleteWonderful news!! Made my day!
ReplyDeleteCan't live without it. Wife finds it awesome
ReplyDeleteLove your service! Good to know u're still alive and kicking. Looking forward for xmark for iPhone. XD
ReplyDeleteI pledged. I paid. I'm happy. Thank you Xmarks and LastPass.
ReplyDeleteGood news and I'm glad to hear it.
ReplyDeleteJust yesterday I reinstalled Xmarks because one of my folders went missing.
Thanks to all involved for making this possible.
So does premium tab syncing mean that it will finally sync tabs in Safari also?
ReplyDeleteLastpass + Xmarks + Dropbox FTW!
ReplyDeletekidding.. wow, great to see you hooked up with the other service I consider indispensable.
Grats and Long Live the LastMarks Dynasty... heh. now need to spend some money to support you. To The PayPal Robin!
I didn't know about Lastpass before this - now you received my subscription money, AND I'm a very happy LastPass user as well :)
ReplyDeleteAny plans on removing the password sync in XMarks, which admittedly suddenly seems extremely bare-bones compared to LastPass? :)
I really happy to hear this news!
ReplyDeleteI have to tell this to my friends!
I stumbled on this page as I was looking for an alternative to XMarks since I still thought it was going away in January. I breathed a sigh of relief when I read this wonderful news that Last Pass is acquiring XMarks. I already use Last Pass and am confident that XMarks will continue to thrive under this new ownership!! Great news!!
ReplyDeleteIn one word : Yesssssssssss :)
ReplyDeleteQuestion: Does this mean that you guys will stop supporting password syncing? It seems kinda redundant now that you've teamed up with LastPass.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I approve strongly of the company that is buying you guys out. Xmarks is an awesome product, and after reading up about LastPass, I think the two companies would work very well together.
On a random note, this had to be some of the best ways for LastPass to advertise. I hadn't heard about them before, but after reading how they store the passwords, and their basic philosophies, I'm definitely going to start using LastPass.
Great news and I'm back as a customer after two days of firefox sync not working.
ReplyDeleteThis is great news! Lastpass are both exceptional products!
ReplyDeleteIts a good thing you made it possible to use Google Checkout to buy Premium since not all people throughout the world can use Pay Pal :)
ReplyDeleteNow I am off to register a premium account :)
Oh and yes... Good to have you back ;)
good to hear you found a partner. i am already a lastpass user so I see a interesting team building up.
ReplyDeleteI am glad i can rely on xmarks also for the future!
cheers
g.
My wife and I both use XMarks and we're excited to learn that it won't be going away in January. Would you consider offering a family pack or a couples pack? 2yearly memberships for $20 instead of 2@ $12 each?
ReplyDeleteWith the new freemium model, I'm sure I'm not the only one wanting to know what exactly is going to happen in regards to Tab Sync. The current xmarks extension still syncs tabs. Is that going to eventually stop for free users or will it only apply to new users?
ReplyDeleteThanks
thank you !you are right.
ReplyDeleteYeah... Just sign my Xmarks Premium membership. Hooray!!
ReplyDelete不错不错,现在皆大欢喜了....欢迎欢迎阿
ReplyDeleteWhat'ta wonderfoul news ! Last pass & Xmarsk are the best net tools for me ! Great !
ReplyDeletegreat news! Thanks to Lastpass, and you guys are just great!
ReplyDeleteA good tool, with such a high quality will never die.
ReplyDeleteJust... Thanks a lot for this.
With lastpass purchase of xmarks, I indirectly learned that lastpass in another great tool, and works faster than my Norton password safe. This is a powerful combo, lastpass and xmarks
ReplyDeleteThis is good. I just wish I hadn't bothered switching to Mozilla's Sync when I read the announcement that Xmarks was finishing... it's nowhere near as good.
ReplyDeleteI mean I kind of think you jumped the gun a bit with the announcement. But whatever, I just reinstalled it and all my data is still there, which is pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteI am soooo happy I could burst. Now I have to get the premium ASAP. Hoot!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you guys can keep being the best bookmark manager on the planet.
ReplyDeleteI'd just like to say:
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!!
THANK YOU!!!
THANK YOU!!!
and
BLESS YOU!!!!!!!!!
I knew deep down that Xmarks was so good that there must be someone out there who would keep it going!
Glad Last Pass has saved this awesome site. I was really concerned on what site I would use to replace this one. Thanks so much for this.
ReplyDeleteThe best Christmas present in the cyber world is LastPass stepping up to continue this awesome site. Thanks for a New Year's gift.
ReplyDeleteFantastic. I listened to Steve Gibson's review of LastPass because I hadn't heard of it here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4-h5gWpvAc
and this looks like a terrific partnership.
I found it a little tricky to buy the $20 bundle, but eventually figured it out here:
https://lastpass.com/features_joinpremiumxmarks.php
No Google sync for me after all. This is fantastic news!
ReplyDeleteAh brilliant. I use both XMarks and LastPass already. Great to see them merging.
ReplyDeleteFantastic news! I'm indebted to xmarks for making my syncing of pages and pages of Bookmarks across my 7 browsers on 2 OS's. Cheers to LastPass for recognising the quality work from Xmarks to date!
ReplyDeleteI'm so very pleased that Xmarks has been rescued. It was with much misery that I went back to Google's alternative when I read the news Xmarks was going under, and the experience was just as painful as I remember it.
ReplyDeleteThen this news came out, I switched back to Xmarks and happiness was restored. Seriously, it's that good and makes that much of a difference to my multi-computer browsing experience.
I did as promised and ordered the upgrade plus annual renewal.
ReplyDeleteI am sooooooo happy this happened !!!
The news that Xmarks will continue its service comes as a great relief. Forgive me for mentioning that Firefox Sync & Google Sync are no match to Xmarks. I feel grateful to all the people who have endeavoured to keep Xmarks alive & kicking.
ReplyDeleteI hope James is still working three =(
ReplyDeleteAnyway, i don't know why so many people hated Discovery features. I actually was looking for it after it's gone under Xmarks 3.9.2 update. And I just rolled back to 3.8.x version to have this feature back.
Could you maybe drop a subtle hint to them to improve their UX? The red has got to go, it's painful to look at. Also, I can't create an account. Their signup form appears in double for me, and then when I try to submit it their "loading" animation (who uses those anymore?) plays forever without creating my account. It makes me feel uneasy about using their service.
ReplyDeleteI've made good on my pledge. =)
ReplyDeleteNice to see this. I'm wondering about the strange coincidence of my last successful sync being on the same day as the announcement. My unsuccessful sync is only with Firefox 2.0.0.20. My newer machines, with Firefox 3, work fine. I'm having trouble finding some place on the xmarks.com site to look for how to troubleshoot this. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteWhat will happen to the iPhone app - will it still work without a premium account? Just out of curiosity, I'll make good on my pledge anyway
ReplyDeleteCongrats guys! Glad to see Xmarks will live on :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear that, I just upgraded for 2 years ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks,
disi
This is by far the best news! I have been very happily using both Xmarks and LastPass for a long time now, and they are two of the most indispensable utilities that I use all day, every day with personal and work computers along with iPhone and iPad. Without them I would be an un-synchronized mess. Thank you, thank you!
ReplyDeleteGreat news. Yes, I pledged to pay for the premium service and I just signed up for it. I actually won't have much use for the premium service but decided to pay for it anyway as a way of saying thanks for this great app and working so hard to keep it alive!
ReplyDeleteSO you're saying that if I honor my pledge I can keep helping support Xmarks... AND GET LASTPASS as well!!! What an AWESOME outcome!
ReplyDeleteI’ve made good on my pledge - and you on yours. THX :-)
ReplyDeleteI've made good on my Promise.. I'd never heard of lastpass until the acquisition but once I saw it I took advantage of the bundle premium price.
ReplyDeleteI'm required to use Windows at work but all of my home computers are Linux systems. It is a mix of Debian and Gentoo systems. I was quite worried when I first heard about the possibility of xmarks going away, but I am glad it is here to stay. Where else would I go to have the cross platform capabilities that I've come to depend on with xmarks!
I was already a user of lastpass (free version) and have made good my pledge to purchase Xmarks plus I bought lastpass as well
ReplyDeleteI pledged to contribute to Xmarks, and as soon as Christmas is over, I'll be purchasing my premium version of Xmarks!
ReplyDeleteI sat down at the computer tonight thinking "ok, time finally to figure out what I'm going to do when XMarks goes away." Decided to look at the home page one more time to see if there was a suggested transition process. Was stunned and pleased :) to see XMarks will continue in new partnership w/ LastPass.
ReplyDeleteGod bless Last Pass.
I can't afford a subscription now, as I haven't been paid since August, but will at the earliest opportunity.
I haven't seen the mass e-blast letting people know to continue w/ XMarks. maybe I missed it. I hope not too many people removed XMarks.
I found out about XMarks through Firefox. Maybe they can do an announcement too.
Good luck w/ the merger.... may you find the commercial success you deserve by providing this great product... and thanks. --russjohnson
spread the word!
ReplyDeleteI was in the process of migrating to Foxsync when I stumbled on this. Really: make some noise.
Great deal! I pledged to pay if there would be a premium version of xmarks an dit it yesterday. Now I use both xmarks and lastpass together. Thanks a lot.
ReplyDeleteGreat! Great! Great! thanks, LastPass.
ReplyDeleteJust like many other I just made good on my pledge and upgraded to Premium. Can't be happier to see that you are still here and will continue to be here!
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome and glad that Xmarks can be continued, I have been using it since foxmark era, it's the greatest add-on for all time!
ReplyDeleteI'll even go Premium BUT ONLY with my old username...
ReplyDeleteCan you folks reinstate our deleted XMarks accounts?
ReplyDeleteYou even told us to go to Firefox Sync.. now if I return to XMarks, I'd at least like to be able to login using my old username. Even THAT I can't do...
Help..please?
I've been using lastpass and xmarks as well from a long time.I couldn't have wished a better outcome.I'll definite go premium if i'll ever buy an android phone
ReplyDeleteThis is the best Christmas present ever! :0-)
ReplyDelete- AJ

I had never heard of LastPass until the news from Xmarks. I honored my pledge and took advantage of the combo package and couldn't be happier with how well it works! I hope the merger between the companies is a great success!
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Thanks to LastPass Guys for keeping XMarks alive. Hope it will be a good investment.
ReplyDeleteFinally, i pledged for the premium account, today i finally got the time to get premium, to support you guys i got the package also and now im a happy premium customer on both services.
ReplyDeleteWay, cool!!! I've been using LastPass and Xmarks as my syncing solution duo for years. Nice that they are "under the same roof" now!
ReplyDeleteBrilliant news! I too have been a user of Lastpass & XMarks. I've been undecided about the upgrade to lastpass premium for a while now, but this (along with my pledge) will seal the deal. 2 great new apps for my iphone!
ReplyDeletewhat is the difference between one and the other
ReplyDeleteWow, I just stumbled across this news tonight about Xmarks not going bye-bye after all. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteAnd for once in my lifetime, my procrastinating habits paid off! I'd postponed changing over to Firefox Sync, and now I'm SO glad I did. Now, my Xmarks acct. is intact, and alive & well. Whew!
Thank you Xmarks and LastPass! You finally did it, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteXmarks is in my top 3 browser addons and can't live without it, there are no similar products that can compete with its quality and reliability. I am still not decided to go premium since I don't own an Android phone but I am just a tiny step from getting a year subscription.
Long life to Xmarks!
"4.5 million users syncing .... across 5 million computers"
ReplyDeleteDo the math.... most people only have one computer. Do you realize you're more of a backup service than a syncing service? ;)
Well, perhaps it's true that most have only one computer... but, my brother uses it across 2, I use it across 6, as well as multiple browsers on any one machine. It is definitely the syncing feature we're after; I have an encrypted home server if I just want to back up.
ReplyDeleteupgrade to premium <3
ReplyDeleteOh my God! This is so awesome! Thanks, guys!
ReplyDeleteKeith, well it depends, I love the idea that I can use the same bookmarks across multiple browsers. And use the same bookmarks at home and at work (well that is more than one computer).
ReplyDeleteI might give LastPass a try. Did not Xmarks support password syncing too? But I have never used it. And I guess Xmarks only sync browser's password, while LastPass allow you to enter custom notes. On my personal system, I use it to put anything, website password + info I have provided (e.g. First Name, Last Name, Email), software registration info, life's account info, lock number (e.g. 12-32-22), etc. So an "account manager" would need to support that, be very flexible and fast to use when I need it.
ReplyDeleteSo Happy!
ReplyDeleteJust joined to premium account (lastpass + xmarks). Hope to see both plataforms sinergically working.
ReplyDeleteHappy 2011 for everybody.
I don't think I've been this excited about a product in years. As promised, I am happy to say, I will be making my premium purchase tomorrow when I get paid!!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!! As soon as I get an Android, I'll be purchasing the premium. I love you Xmarks! Thanks for keeping me organized, I'd be lost without you my love.
ReplyDeleteIt is really a very very good news that Xmarks has been aquired and it is going to continue to give all the essential features provided earlier for free. I was totally shocked to see the email of shutdown of xmarks back in september and sadly looked for alternatives which came in the form of foxsync.
ReplyDeleteNow i have started using google chrome but i was missing a bookmark and password sync provided by xmarks.
But accidentally when i was browsing for a password sync for google chrome i came across xmarks aquisition news, thank goodness. Otherwise i would have missed this great free extension for bookmarks and password for how long god only know.
I am slightly disappointed at the new team because, I would have really appreciated the news of your acquisition in my email inbox.
Great news! Long live, you guys!
ReplyDeleteJust received the email, congratulations to everyone at Xmarks. This is a nice X-MAS present.
ReplyDeleteWith the Jan 1 deadline quickly approaching I was dreading the thought of losing the only true cross-platform bookmark sychronization tool on the market. Getting the email about LastPass and them keeping the free version was a nice pre-Christmas stocking stuffer. Thanks to the entire Xmarks team that created and have maintained such an awesome product.
ReplyDeleteAll right...
ReplyDeleteAny way, Xmarks survive....
congratulations
You don't know how happy this made me this morning!! I was starting to sweat to find a new solution. Long live XMarks!!!
ReplyDeleteI guess I speak for all of your users: !TERRIFIC!, you're saved and can carry on!
ReplyDelete(... none of all of your look-a-likes are a real substitute: we would've been set back)
Keep on doing the good work!
VERY HAPPY TO HEAR THIS!
ReplyDeleteNice CHRISTmas present!
CONGRATS!
Guys, this is soooo great! Actually I overjoyed now, because this whole time I thought Xmarks is going to die next month and I were mourning because I couldn't find a really proper substitute for it and I liked using all functions of my Xmarks so much. And today I recieved e-mail with such good news! I don't really need premium account ( no android and my mobile really old and can't access internet :))) but I still bought it because I hoped so much for this miracle to happen and vowed that I would definitely pay for it if Xmarks will be able to survive. So I am happy for you guys - you were able to do it! Just continue to help us using web with comfort and we will love you even more! :)))
ReplyDeleteVery good!
ReplyDeleteA lot of excitement in the tech field of late. Congratulations on the merger.
ReplyDeleteYes!!!! I am so happy and relieved with this news! I will definitely sign up to become a premium member.

SCUSATEMI BUON NATALE
Extremely happy that lastpass has acquired xmarks. Lastpass is an excellent service provider already and xmarks is an excellent product. Thank you for enriching the internet.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice Christmas surprise! Happy holidays everyone!
ReplyDeletegreat christmas present, guys ! happy holidays !
ReplyDeleteIt's exactly who I was hoping would acquire xmarks. I kept thinking that LastPass needs to add bookmarks to their vault. With this acquisition I can see an eventual merger of both systems leading to an unrivaled product.
ReplyDeleteYes! Va Fan Culo!
ReplyDeleteCongratulation guys. You guys deserve it.
ReplyDeleteCongrat. Good Xmas present.
ReplyDeleteYou guys mind sharing how much you sold the site for???
ReplyDeleteThat's good news guys. Congrat.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if they plan on farming out data like Xmarks did when they took over foxmarks.
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested as thats why I removed the addon. Nothing more unnerving than other people seeing what I bookmark.
chinese government have ban Xmark, we can't access Xmark's server, can find a solution to meet our need?
ReplyDeleteI've just been using Firefox Sync ever since I read Xmarks was going to perish and it works perfectly well. Too bad I use Opera Mobile on my cell phone and had to get Opera on my laptop to sync the bookmarks from Firefox though...
ReplyDeleteKeepass is free and Google has bookmark management accessible from anywhere with any browser. Why use this?
ReplyDeleteThe merger of two must-have utilities (must-have for frequent travelers like me, who need to sync bookmarks across desktop and laptop computers, and use passwords securely when overseas, and not type them in) is great news.
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking for another project for travelers, I'd like to suggest a sync program for email. At present, I have to copy over my desktop email client (Thunderbird) to my laptop when I begin a trip, and reverse the process when I return home. It would be very nice to have all my received, sent and filed mail (basically the entire email package) sync'd, similar to xmarks. It should support multiple email addresses, as well.
Anyhow, keep up the good work.
