Welcome Google Chrome to the Browser World!

Google launched a brand new open source web browser this week! The new Google Chrome browser is blazingly fast and promises a safer and more stable experience online. Our first impression is that Chrome is lite on bookmarking features (there’s no UI for organizing your bookmarks), but we’re confident that the folks at Google will get around to filling in that blank soon. We tested our my.foxmarks.com online bookmark manager using Chrome and we’re pleased to see that it’s both compatible and super speedy.

Of particular interest to us: Google Chrome doesn’t have a way to sync bookmarks across computers. Since we know a thing or two about this, we’re happy to report that we’re investigating a Foxmarks add-on for Google Chrome.

But that’s not all. Over the past few months, many of you have written in to us asking for Safari support. We’re delighted to share that we are exploring how to sync your bookmarks with Safari as well. It’s too early to say when Foxmarks for Safari will be available, but we’ll be sure to keep you posted as we learn more.

Foxmarks has been syncing Firefox bookmarks across computers for almost two years, and now we’re expanding to sync bookmarks across browsers as well. We’ve just begun supporting Internet Explorer (try out the alpha version) and we hope to add Chrome and Safari to the list.

Yesterday was a big day in the world of browsers; as consumers get more and more choices for how they use the Web, our goal is to make sure you have the freedom to have your data available and in sync on as many different browsers and platforms as possible.

Comments

Yes please! This is the only thing holding me back from using it full time, is the syncing of my bookmarks.

I’m surprised by how much I like Chrome. I have to say that its lack of support for atom/rss feeds and foxmarks are the only dealbreakers for me.

Will be watching your feed anxiously for Chrome support!

Yes please – this would be the thing that makes me move full time to Chrome. I am already using it most of the time… :)

If you need an alpha/beta tester, let me know.

One of the most important features for me is that ability to add notes in Foxmarks to each bookmark or bookmark folder that is accessible by clicking on the properties. I use it to put the names, phone numbers and local numbers of my suppliers, for example.

I will want Foxmarks for Chrome to have the same feature of storing my notes on any Bookmark link or Bookmark folder.

Yes, Foxmarks for Chrome will make me do the switch!
Please make a plugin for it before someone else does! =)

You guys at Foxmarks rule!
Looking forward to a Chrome add-on. If you’re in need of testers when you’ve got a build created, give me a shout.

- Aaron

Foxmarks is the Best!! I’ve been wanting to use chrome exclusively but having foxmarks there will allow me :)

I agree, foxmarks is the best. thanks for a great product.

chrome without foxmarks is equal to nothing! :)

Foxmarks is fantastic! Please make an add-on for Chrome.

I find it very useful a fast browser than internet explorer and firefox. I have noted one thing that i use internet explorer and firefox and my windows slow down as i open more pages using these browsers but using google chrome it doesn’t happened! I LOVE IT!

SMS Text Greetings – A collection of words that express your feelings to the people you love!

Yes. Please. Also, I would love to sync the Keyword Bookmarking feature to be synced across all the browsers.

Safari, Opera, Firefox supports Keyword Bookmarking. I am quite sure Google Chrome will also be supporting it.

If this Keyword Bookmarking is supported by Foxmarks, It would be great.

hoooraaayyy !!!
foxmarks for chrome would be really-really great !!

I join the concert of voices to require Foxmark in GoogleChrome.

At present, it’s the only thing that prevents me from entering fully in Chrome environement.

P.S: My company does not reckognize any other web brother but
I.E, as Corporate application and we’re not supposed to use any other(Firefox…). The fact is that it is not even possible to download GoogleChrome.

How do you think we could change that?

Echoing the sentiments here… Chrome won’t be complete until Foxmarks is compatible! As I drove to work this morning I was even thinking about what it could be called… ChromeMarks? FoxChrome? FoxmarksChrome? … Anyway, as of right now I’m hitting my most visited/memorized sites (Gmail, NY Times, CNN, etc…) on Chrome and won’t be fully functional on Chrome until Foxmarks is compatible.

Google’s great browser deserves Foxmark’s synchronization. Thanks for making it easy to keep me in touch with myself and where I’ve been.

Yes! Please add support for Chrome. FoxMarks is the only plugin that I can not live without. I love it!

Although I love firefox, I am under no illusion that chrome will not be a cracking browser. Two double negatives, you work it out. Great product thought.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Chrome is. I would test it now, but Google has seen fit to use browser sniffing to prevent me from downloading their browser simply because I’m running Linux(not that they didn’t provide me with a way of knowing when they release a Linux browser, but they could have let me download the one for Windows… I mean, what if I didn’t want to wait until I got home to download the browser and the computer at the library used Linux? Unlikely, but possible scenario).

Anyway, I’ll be unable to test their browser on Linux for a while, but I’d be glad to test it on Wine if I could download it… Guess I’ll have to needlessly install a browser on Wine just to get their browser. ^^;

Well, it doesn’t work too well with Wine anyway, but it would still be nice to be able to download any version with any operating system on any browser… I don’t see why that would be a problem… just put a link to the other versions like they do at Mozilla.

Awesome, I’m so glad you weren’t held back by your name. But keep the name, “Foxmarks” is cool. :)

FoxMarks is just great , Hopefully you will come out with a ext for chrome soon this is one of the reasons keeping me from shifting me to chrome fully.

Looking forward to ChromMarks.

Desperately awaiting Foxmarks for Chrome. It is an awesome app and I miss it on Chrome!

Looking forward to Foxmarks for Chrome. In the meantime folks, this is a manual method but works, you can first sync your bookmarks in firefox, then in Chrome hit button in upper right screen, select “import bookmarks and settings…”, select firefox bookmarks and import. It will update your chrome bookmarks with the ones from firefox. The entire operation only takes a couple of seconds.

Honestly, the only thing keeping me from switching to Chrome is I can’t lose my foxmarks! Please make a Chrome version!

I’ll only use Chrome as default as soon as I have Foxmarks support!

this Foxmarks is the Best product I have ever seen in the earth.

It helps me through saving bookmarks all the time.

Thank you, Foxmarks Team.

Really Appreciate it.

Uhm… shouldn’t we wait for Chrome to support add-ons first before getting our hopes up too high?

Chrome is a marked improvement on Firefox and way at the back, IE, but I definitely miss my Foxmarks and can’t wait for it to come to Chrome then I’ll have everything I ever wanted, well almost :)
Chrome has persuaded me to move to a gmail address and start to use Google desktop and Picasa for pictures and I think it will have a significant impact on our usage globally.

I am using Chrome and Firefox because of FoxMarks… As soon as you guys work out FoxMarks for Chrome It will be 100% Chrome for me!!!!!!!

“we hope to add Chrome” : the question is WHEN !

@Jo²: The answer to that is probably “not sure”.

First, Chrome has to get out of beta and into a public release, and in addition to that we need to know if they have a plugin API and what it is before it is possible to develop a plugin for their browser. If there is no plugin API, then the only alternative is to ask them if it’s ok to integrate Foxmarks into the browser, create a separate program to synchronize bookmarks, or just live without bookmark synchronization on Chrome.

Basically, for now, it’s just “wait and see” time right now.

Foxmarks is the ONLY reason I haven’t clicked Chrome’s “Make Default Browser” button.

When Foxmarks can support Chrome, I’ll be hooked.

Have you morons (especially that guy who can’t spell recognize or browser) ever heard of the superior browser-Opera?

@studmuffin2009: If everyone who uses Opera is as rude as you, then the answer is probably “yes”.

Also, the person you are referring to is not allowed to use _any_ browser except Internet Explorer(you would know this, if you read well enough).

Foxmark being the great app !!! it will great to have foxmark extension for google chrome

Another vote for Foxmarks synching with Safari too…

I have to use multiple browsers, and constantly struggle to keep bookmarks synched between Safari and Firefox. I can’t tell you how much money I have dumped into stupid little apps that have no development support behind them.

I’d friggin PAY to have this work.

The lack of Foxmarks is the only thing keeping me from Chrome full time!

Foxmarks Rocks!
Chrome Rocks!

As with almost everyone else here, Foxmark support for Chrome would be the last barrier to my switching over full time. Keep up the good work.

I import the favourites and I have since mozilla foxmarks in google chromium.
the question just what I sicronizar in mozilla

importe marcadores de firefox a crome .
Lo ùnico es que tengo que sincronizarlo en firefox
mientras sale en crome

Foxmarks has been one of the best add-ons for Firefox and I’l excited to hear that your extending it to support other browsers.

Keep up the awesome work and thanks for building a great app!

Cheers!

Yet another browser was my initial thought, but i found out that I like chrome a lot, really a lot in terms of browsing experience.
Still a bit unpolished around the edges but for a beta release it rocks…

indeed the only thing holding me back on using it nearly fulltime is the missing sync feature with my other browsers.

THis is THE feature I’m looking for, safari would be great too!
thanks for the good work.

Foxmarks ftw! Along with the most of you the primary reason I’m not using Chrome full time is that I can’t use my beloved Foxmarks.

I was among the first to install and test it, but a few days later I uninstalled Chrome.
Of course I missed the extensions, like Foxmarks – and even more important, my safety and privacy extenions like NoScript, AdBlock and CustomizeGoogle.
But most important, I’m now testing FF3.1 with Tracemonkey active, and I asure you: it gives you the same blazing speed as Chrome.

And there is this too: when you type one single digit in the address box, four (4) ports are opened, and four (4) different Google servers are addressed. Why? What happens really? I don’t think I want to know, and certainly I,m not going to do banking with a browser and don’t trust that much.

I love the dependability of Foxmarks and would REALLY appreciate a version that works with Apple’s Safari browser for the Mac

Yes it’s definitely a great Tool and I can’t remember what I did without it :-D
So besides IE I’d like to vote too for support of Opera and Konqueror in addition to Chrome and Safari ;-)

I think a lot of people going to Chrome are going to come from Firefox, although the masses will stick with IE because they don’t know any better. Probably a good idea to add Chrome support.

I’ll throw in support for this too.
I looked at Chome and kind of liked it, but you guys are what locks me into Firefox. Foxmarks is just too damn useful.

So spread your wings, if it’s possible and support other browsers.
It would be so great to use Foxmarks as a link between browsers brands on the one computer.

I too am resisting moving to Chrome from FF — and Foxmarks is the reason! Thanks for a great app!

I love Chrome, but I love Foxmarks more. I can’t make the switch completely until I can get my Foxmarks in Chrome!

yes please! you provide such a great service with your genius tool! it the only real necessary tool when working on more than one computer! great! please also add the other browsers – especially chrome – to your service!

I’m waiting your plugin for Chrome …
Thank you

Yet another person waiting eagerly for Foxmarks for Chrome.
Foxmarks is the only thing keeping me from abandoning FF completely.

I keep checking here, almost daily, for an update.
Are you making any progress on the Chrome plug-in?
ETA? A day? A month? A year?

Please give us an update. Thanks!

@Navarre: It will be after Google announces any sort of interface for us to use in Chrome, which hasn’t happened yet. Thanks for your enthusiasm, and stay tuned!

I want to know the very second Foxmarks for Chrome becomes available!! I need this!! :)

Yes, please!!!!

Paaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaase. Are Safari and Chrome that different from each other? I know nothing about comp sci but a foxmarks type add-on/service for chrome would be very nice. Asta la vista :)

@John: They have the same rendering engine(so we can assume they render web pages at least similar and at most the same), but the actual program definitely different. I haven’t looked at the code for either browser, but I can assume they are different because they have a different UI and, so far, a different set of features.

Safari seems to be very similar to Firefox in design(at least the UI and some features), while Chrome seems to be doing(pretty much) everything from scratch. Chrome, as of now, has no known plugin API(though there may be one in the future), has each tab in it’s own process(unless certain conditions are met), and I think it has a different bookmarking system(I haven’t had a chance to test since I don’t have Windows).

I agree that it would be nice to have, but for now we have to wait and see if they will have a plugin interface to use. Until then, we’ll have to just be patient.

Love Foxmarks. can’t wait till it’s available for Google’s Chrome.

Sign me up for the “Foxmarks for Chrome” cheerleading team :)

Foxmarks is a savior and Chrome is incredibly fast and i love it too. hopefully there will be a marriage soon.

Please do it as soon as possible :-)

No foxmarks support is the one major things that’s preventing me from switching to chrome, at least for some of my browsing.

The reason why I still use Firefox as my default browser is Foxmarks. I got a laptop, a normal computer and a computer at work, not to mention my wife’s computer and her computer at work and we share the same bookmarks. When I do “^D” I want that bookmark to appear in all these computers. Chrome fails to give us this functionality…

YES! Please do, it’s one of the only things stopping me change over right away.

Foxmarks please get this update up so I can stop using FF.

Thanks!

Foxmarks is the only reason I stll have Firefox as my default browser. Please make it avalilable for Google Chrome and/or Opera. Thanks

i love chrome. please make a foxmarks version!!!! without foxmarks i can’t run it!!!!

If there were foxmarks for safari and chrome that would be perfect. All browsers in sync would be the greatest thing ever! :)

i love chrome too. Please make a foxmarks..Very very Thanks

Like many others here, the only reason I’m not using Chrome is because there’s no foxmarks.

Just like the rest….. I will switch to Chrome once Foxmarks is incorporated. Would you have to make a name change to “Googlemarks”? No matter what you call it….. I am in!

@Gordy: Nah, I don’t think that’ll work, as they already have a version for Firefox and IE, and may have one for other browsers in the future. Besides, I think people would be confused with a browser plug-in/add-on/whatever called “I(E)GooFoxPassHistmarks” or some such long extruded name. XD

Of course, if you feel otherwise, you may join my discussion which I had created a while back. I wasn’t really serious, but I thought it deserved some thought. ^.^

http://getsatisfaction.com/foxmarks/topics/should_we_change_the_name_to_foxsync

^ Was truncated because it was in these: ”… Isn’t it proper to put links in those? I mean, like <http://getsatisfaction.com/foxmarks/topics/should_we_change_the_name_to_foxsync>

Anyway, I don’t fault you for not wanting any html in your comments. ;)

I cant live without foxmarks!

ME TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, foxmarks is one of the most useful plugins, in my opinion..well done!

Two things are missing from Chrome (as many have already said):
Feeds, Bookmarks/Foxmarks!!!

Is there any way to organize your bookmarks in Chrome? Does anyone know in which directory are they kept, so that I can organize them manually??

On WinXP machine Chrome keeps bookamrks in C:\Documents and Settings\-your-name-\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Bookmarks file. This is a text file which looks similar to XML.
It is quite easy to manually override Chrome “Other Bookmarks” with your Firefox bookmarks:
1) In Chrome, click on “Other Bookmarks” and, if you have any, right click on each bookmark and delete it.
2) Use “Import Bookmarks and Settings”, switch to import from Firefox, clear all checkboxes except ‘Bookmarks’ one and hit ‘Import’.
3) This will keep all imported bookmarks in one ‘folder’, which is actually good, because next time when you decide to override Chrome bookmarks, you will need to delete only one Other Bookamrks ‘folder’ by right-clicking on it.

I’d love to see Foxmarks for Chrome also.

Yet another ‘me too’ for foxmarks on chrome.

Amazing how I’ve grown to depend on foxmarks.
I won’t even consider changing a browser unless it
has foxmarks support.

Another vote for Foxmarks on Chrome!

It’s the only thing keeping me from moving to Chrome, the inability to synchronize bookmarks…

Me too am waiting for you guys to come up with a Chrome Foxmarks plug-in to make the jump to Chrome.

Waiting for it :) if u need a tester let me know :)

C’mon, guys! Where’s the chrome sync ?!

I also wold like Google Chrome and Opera support!
They are my favorites browsers too!

Another Chrome potential user eagerly awaiting Foxmarks support.

Where’s the chrome?!

Come on where’s foxmarks for Chrome?! – yet another user here waiting patiently and checking this blog again and again in anticipation!!!!

Also waiting eagerly for Foxmarks in Chrome.
Thanks for such a great product, look forward to seeing it ported.

For the love of all that is holy… make foxmarks work with all browsers. I am a developer and having bookmarks sync’d across all browsers would be absolutely phenomenal. I’d pay $5 a month for this “service”

Where is the version for chrome? Isn’t there a beta out or something, can’t start using chrome if I don’t have foxmarks. Looking forward to that release!

Foxmarks is the most important application in my repository. I love chrome and google in general but I cannot work without Foxmarks. Any updates??

Foxmarks is fantastic. Any update on the work being done to create a Chrome-supported version?

Having Foxmarks for Chrome, IE and Firefox would be amazing! Your product is amazing, very reliable and definitely the best sync option. Thanks guys :)

I want to use chrome and delete firefox for ever. But I can’t live without foxmarks… so I’m stuck with firefox. Please release a chrome version of foxmarks soon !!!

I want to use chrome and delete firefox for ever. But I can’t live without foxmarks… so I’m stuck with firefox. Please release a chrome version of foxmarks soon !!!

shut up matt, stop giving bad ideas!

I’d like to see Foxmarks support Google Chrome also. Something else that would be cool is if Foxmarks could sync settings across browsers also.

Foxmarks for Chrome!!! It will rule!:))))))))
Foxmarks for Chrome!!! It will rule!:))))))))
Foxmarks for Chrome!!! It will rule!:))))))))

Hello Foxmarks,
what about a chrome version ? 5 months now !
Hey, more !
What about a French Version ? got a hundred of customers waiting….

Any time line for a chrome interface???

c’mon… We want plug-in for chrome!! :)

+1 for a Chrome version of Foxmarks!

I just learned about foxmarks in the WSJ article a few days ago.

I have installed it on my 3 computers at home working with XP and VISTA. I am a retired SW developer but I work part time as as consultnt. As a website manager and software evaluator one of the things I do is test the Software and websites compatibilty will all the popular browsers. Chrome is now one of them. I probably spend my time equally between Chrome and Firefox and the least used being IE on my 3 home and home-office computers.

I like your Foxmarks tool. It is a definite time saver and helps me keep the computers organized. Looking forward to a version for Chrome.

Jim

Adding my support for Foxmarks for Google Chrome. I love it, and Foxmarks would allow me to make a more complete switch to Chrome.

I’d also LOVE to see Chrome support from Foxmarks.
The question is will this happen before this server runs out of space from hosting all these Chrome requests!
5 months and counting…

I just started using foxmarks and love it. I am a huge fan of Google Chrome as well and adding my support for integration with foxmarks.

+1 for a Chrome version of Foxmarks!

Foxmarks is a great invention, Chrome is too, but the two will never realize their full potential until they can become one.

Good Job w/Foxmarks to win over the Chrome crowd without supporting the browser yet. SIGN ME UP FOR ALPHA!

Love foxmarks and it’s the only thing keeping me from switching from firefox to Chrome – can’t wait until this is available!

Perfect combination!

please make an addon for chrome.

Can’t wait!

thanks, for now I’ll just use the browser that goes with foxmarks :)

it has been long since this post was published, but i can’t see a download for it even now… this made me worry. are there some problems with Xmarks and Crome?

Foxmarks is fantastic! I almost stopped using Roboform in favor of Foxmarks, but since I switched to using Chrome as my default browser, I still need to use my Roboform + Dropbox setup to sync passwords between computers (I have a work computer, home computer, and laptop).

It looks like the Google Chrome at last released the first extension framework in one of the more recent developer builds:
http://www.osnews.com/story/21494

I’d be quite keen to hear xMarks’ take on this. Do you guys think the framework is ready to begin development of your plugin? Are you already tinkering with this?

Thanks very much for the months of happiness I have had with your extension in Firefox!

Chrome 2 is out, 3 is in beta/dev mode, will we see an xmarks extension soon for version 2 or do we have to wait for Chrome3 ?

Bump.
