PC World Tests Foxmarks Password Security


PC World’s privacy expert, Erik Larkin, just published a review of Foxmarks Secure Password Sync on the PC World Privacy Watch blog. His focus is on the security of our implementation and architecture. We’re pleased to report that we passed his investigation with flying colors. Here’s what he had to say:

“So I did some investigating to make sure that [Foxmarks] had taken the proper precautions. My conclusion: It appears to have done so.”

I’m not sure we should be taking security advice from someone who thinks AES stands for “automatic edit summaries” (Seriously, wtf?). Too bad, I would have liked to have read a review from someone knowledgeable.

Foxmarks uses that PIN, which is really just another password, to encrypt your saved browser passwords with 256-bit AES (automatic edit summaries)encryption before sending them over an SSL
