Foxmarks for Firefox 2.7.2 Released: Suggested Tags and More!

We just released Foxmarks 2.7.2. This release includes the new Suggested Tags feature as well as several bug fixes since our last release in November. Firefox users will see an upgrade notice in the next couple of days.

We first made the Suggested Tags feature available on our blog a few weeks ago. Since then, we’ve improved our recommendation algorithm to return even better tag suggestions.

Learn about Suggested Tags from our earlier post about this feature.

After upgrading to 2.7.2 the Firefox button “Go back one page” works no longer. I had to disable Foxmarks :-(

My Firefox Version:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009011913 Firefox/3.0.6 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

After upgrading to 2.7.2 the firefox button ‘Go Back One Page” works fine. Go figure.

Windows XP here.

Ah, and maybe some more useful info. Your using a later version it seems? A beta maybe?

Sorry, forgot to include the paste. I need more java and cocoa
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.5) Gecko/2008120122 Firefox/3.0.5

I think you need to be more specific about the release info. I received an email that Foxmarks was available for SAFARI but it did not specify that this was for Apple-OS-ONLY operation. This does NOT install on a PC with a “.DMG” extension folks! Many have discovered the surfing tsunami experience with “Safari for Windows” but it appears we must wait awhile longer for the “Foxmarks for Windows” tour-bus to arrive.. -

after update to 2.7.2 i have several issues:
- refresh- stop-, home-buttons are set back to default
- WOT, fireshot + ABP symbols missing
- web developer toolbar is blank
- google feedreader page hangs, doesn’t stop loading, 100% cpu

had to disable foxmarks.

firefox 3.0.6 portable, (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; de; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009011913 Firefox/3.0.6)

happened on XP Sp3 as well as on vista HP

addons: APB, CS Lite, Firebug, fireuploader, fireshot, flagfox, IEtab, ImageZoom, Lasttab, Link Alert, NoScript, ShowIP, Updatenotifier, UrlbarExt, WebDeveloper, WOT

Yes, same thing here :

- Customized “Personal Bar” (”add new Tab” added) reset to default
- WebDev Toolbar blank.
- No more Image Toolbar icon on Img.
- Can’t close the first tab even if I put it in another rank place.
- No info in Status Bar when accessing a web adress (”searching http://www...”, “waiting http://www...”,”data tranfered …”) in the first tab only even if I put it in another rank place.

Config:
- WinXP SP3 French
- Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009011913 Firefox/3.0.6 (_not_ portable)
- addons:
* ABP
* ABP Element Hiding Helper
* Add Bookmark Here²
* Background Image Saver
* BatchDowload
* Bazzacuda Image Saver
* CustomizeGoogle
* Dafzilla ViewSourceWith
* Execute JS
* FEBE
* FlashGot
* IE Tab
* Image Toolbar
* JSView
* Perapera-kun
* Sage
* TinyUrl Creator
* Url Link
* View Cookies
* Web Developer
* Zotero

jordan117’s workaround works (around):
disable all addons, enable foxmarks, restart, re-enable other addons, restart.
not nice, but does it

How about “synchronizing plugins”? Data on server shows that you don’t have “” plugin. Do you want to install him now?

After :
Disable all addons -Restart
Enable Foxmarks – Restart
(Seen the “Updated Foxmarks Extension” web page, I don’t remember I’ve seen it after the last update !)
Re-enable other addons – Restart.

Everything seems to be back to normal.

Great stuff, seen none of the problems reported by others.

I still don’t get why you guys inform me via a *modal* dialog that an update is available. Firefox does that already, and in a way less annoying way.

Fortunately the developers of my other 21 plugins had more sense – otherwise i’d probably kill myself, you know, with 22 different modal dialogs popping up from time to time, informing me of something I really don’t find that important.

Other than that, it’s a superb plugin. Thanks a lot!

Me again.
I ‘v written my last msg too fast. WebDev Toolbar hasn’t got restored. But it have now after :
“* Right click on any blank space on any toolbar.
* Go to customize.
* In the window that opens, click the “Restore Default Set” button. It should repopulate your web developer toolbar.”
found here :
http://chrispederick.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2238
(it was Webdev Toolbar bug !)

Hello!

I love the new Tag feature!!! It’s just great. Foxmarks is definitely the best addon in the history of Addons.

Thank you so much for this little gem of software. You guys rock!

After the last update I don’t manage to sync anymore on one of my two Macs (both Leopard w/ Firefox 3.0.6).

The log on the non-syncing machine is as follows (username hidden by hand):

It would be helpful if the settings allowed you to turn off Tags. Not everyone bookmarks thousands of sites. I only keep those important to me and don’t need to a tag to find it in my tree.

Just an idea.

I can not Update to 2.7.2. I use 2.7.1 with Firefox 3.1 pre beta 3.

Hi everyone, thank you for all your feedback. I’ve tried to address all the issues reported by you below:

@Marco Tanner: This is the first we’ve heard of this issue. If you haven’t already, please write into our support queue and we’ll help you out there.

@RogueRunner: I’m sorry for the confusion but Foxmarks didn’t send out an email about the Safari version; who sent it to you? The download page on our website clearly states that Foxmarks for Safari only works on OSX Leopard. But don’t fret, the “Foxmarks for Windows” tour bus has arrived by way of Foxmarks for Internet Explorer and Foxmarks for Firefox on Windows.

@b-age and @LaF: That is a known issue that we’ve been trying hard to replicate and resolve. It only happens to a few people and only out in the wild. For now there is a work-around and it appears you guys already found it. For everyone else, if you see interference in your toolbar after installing Foxmarks, please read this post.

@Soli: Looks like your bookmarks have been corrupted. We’re not sure as to the root cause of this (whether it’s a Foxmarks or Firefox caused but) but we do know that (a) it’s not related to Suggested Tags and (b) there is a way to fix it. Please check out this thread for details.

@Stephen: Open the Foxmarks Settings dialog (Tools -> Foxmarks -> Foxmarks Settings…), select the “Discovery” tab and uncheck the box to turn off Suggested Tags. You can also get here from the bookmarking pane by clicking the little “i” icon.

I would like to test out using the suggested tags feature, but I’ve just disabled it – There was one annoyance I couldn’t live with.

I often bookmark things temporarily for later, then when I’ve read them later I click the yellow star in the address bar and then “Remove Bookmark”

But unfortunately the “Remove Bookmark” button is now jumping because of the suggested tags feature resizes the box a second after it has opened. I click on yellow star and then hover over “Remove Bookmarks” and click – but now by the time I’ve clicked, the Remove Bookmarks button has jumped a few inches to the left because the suggested tags have had time to load.

I think you need to have the bookmarking popup from the star either be a fixed size rather than resizing when you’ve loaded the suggestions, or you need to pin the Remove button to the right so it doesn’t move when the suggestions appear.

thanks

could we get a safari for windows version as well?

After a crash I restarted firefox and though it downloaded my bookmarks okay, it didn’t grab the passwords. I checked the sync passwords option and it started the create PIN box. That never progressed any further. The box was just blank. Also, I don’t need to create a PIN, just use the one I already have.

I use your extension in several computers.

My only complain: Please stop your notification popup when there is an update available. Firefox already does this, there is no need for foxmarks to disturb my workflow.

Ive been running Foxmarks on several Computers working with Ubuntu 7.04 up to 8.10 synching back and forth like a crazy person flawlessly.

Thanks for making this truly essential Add-On.

Just one thing, the Foxmarks Widget (and the web Interface??) is missing out on Favicon functionality, its not really neccessary but it would look nicer to see the Icons with the Links.

Beside that you Guys are just awesome, keep it coming….

Great tool! Please provide support for Google Chrome too!!

It would be great if we could *easily* set our shortcut keys. It drives me nuts that you guys override my Shift+Ctrl+F on Web Developer Toolbar.

Not a comment on this topic, but couldn’t see anywhere else to make this suggestion….

Could foxmarks explore expanding the add-in to not just remember your bookmarks, but your add-ins and themes as well? This feature would make the process of reloading on a new build a whole lot faster.

que bueno

i love foxmarks – thanks.

i love the new features of firefox where you can type fragments of a url or page title in the address field and it shows you recent pages you have visited with those fragments in.

I assume that this is the history – Foxmarks would be great if it were also to sync your browsing history.

thanks again

Is it possible to configure the Suggested Tag feature to not be case sensitive? All of my pre-existing tags have the first letter of each tag word capitalized. However, Foxmarks suggested tag are all lower case. If I choose a Foxmarks suggested tag when creating a bookmark, I then have duplicates tags – my pre-existing capitilzed cased tag and Foxmarks lower case.

Thanks

Always been a fan of FireFox over the inferior IE, i didn’t think it could get better, but it has 10/10
